LA Rap Video Production

We had the pleasure of producing the LA rap video for the highly acclaimed and locally beloved rapper, Fashawn. Working on this project was indeed an enjoyable experience, largely due to the involvement of renowned director, Punit Dhesi from Antilabs, and the impressive cinematography delivered by Justin McAleece. Though we weren’t in charge of all the scenes, our contribution to the project and additional production support was a rewarding endeavor. The entire video was filmed using Canon 5D and 7D cameras, showcasing the immense capabilities of these compact devices.

The Filming Process

Being part of this project allowed us to explore the grittiness and street-side aura of LA. Week-long shoots in some of LA’s most distinct neighborhoods, such as Boyle Heights and Fairfax District, ultimately made up the visual narrative for Fashawn’s track, ‘California Dreamin’.

The Director’s Vision

Punit Dhesi’s approach to the video was visual storytelling at its finest. His vision lent a raw and authentic hue to the cityscape, which was brilliantly captured through McAleece’s lens. Filming against the backdrop of graffiti-covered walls and bustling streets, Fashawn’s narrative was presented as a candid portrayal of LA’s street life.

Innovation in Editing

Post-production efforts involved creating a seamless flow, piecing together different shots captured across several days. This editing journey was a critical phase of the project and was carried out meticulously to ensure the coherent representation of the track, retaining all its raw essence.

The Outcome

What resulted was an evocative music video that was so much more than an accompaniment to the song. It told a visual story that perfectly complemented the beats and lyrics of the track. The ‘California Dreamin’ music video was a testament to the power of visual storytelling in rap video productions, and a project we are immensely proud to have contributed to.
